PRAYER: A HEAVENLY STATE OF MIND

What is prayer? Normally we think of prayer as a verbal communication with God, be it aloud or within our mind. We may pray to whomever we may choose, depending on our belief system. But is that what prayer is truly all about? I grew up in the southern Baptist church and became disillusioned at a very young age with thee and thou and all the King James babbling that flowed forth from the preacher and the deacons. Actually, I’ve never cared for the traditional approach to prayer, especially in public and groups. I found a kindred spirit in Hannah Hurnard who wrote the book, God’s Transmitters, which you can find out about in the Silent Light Prayer Ministry section on this website. She was in a prayer group and felt they weren’t getting the job done and found a better way through scripture based on science. Our thoughts don’t stay within our minds but expand into the world around us. We are transmitters and the Holy Spirit can use us to reach others if we let Him take control of our minds as needed, Greg Braden is an author who also combines spirituality and science and I once heard him say that ancient scriptures describe prayer as emotion. I believe all of the above because I was mowing grass one day and thinking about people I wanted the Lord to bless and an angelic voice spoke within my mind, “Prayer is a Heavenly state of mind.” Think about it! Being at one with the mind of God is all that matters. S. M.
